A dozen or so drivers of varying turnouts came out to drive the course, which seemed to be suited to both experienced and less experienced drivers and horses.

Katydid Driving holds schooling days throughout the summer, and even though Aiken is much quieter in the summer, they continue to be well attended by year round residents.

I was experimenting with my equipment – so naturally Amigo was my test subject. He loves having his photo taken.

Aiken Equine Vet

Graphic Design and Photography for Aiken Equine Associates

Decided to share some of the work I have been doing for Aiken Equine Associates. They operate both in Aiken, SC and Southern Pines, NC. Initially, they wanted a fresh ad to run on the very popular website, Sporthorse Nation. They decided to follow that up with a brand new website that would improve their search rankings, especially for prepurchase exams. The goal for the website was simple, yet effective. Their previous website was quite jumbled and made information difficult to find. The new website is much cleaner and more modern with more concise information. Additionally, I did several photos of their Aiken office. These were used prominently on the website and subsequent ads.

Be sure to check out Aiken Equine Associates and definitely keep them in mind if you are ever in need of a vet in Aiken or Southern Pines!

Oakey-Dokey

Oakey is a 1/2 Welsh colt foaled March 9th, 2014. He is a smoky black with four white socks and the cutest blaze. His sire is the Welsh Section B, The Key. The Key is also the sire of my pony, Zoey. Zoey is super special in every single way (not that I am biased), so decided to try for another. Oakey’s mom is a small crossbred mare by Makuba, a German Riding pony stallion.

Nicke Palsson Clinic and Gilcrest HDT

Lots of driving to do in Aiken, SC over the winter. A few things were canceled due to the epic ice storm we experienced a few weeks ago and clean up will take a while. However, most things are back to normal. Swedish driver Nicke Palsson came to Aiken to give lessons. Both new and experienced drivers took part in the lessons, hosted at Bev Lesher’s Courage to Lead Farm and organized by Lisa Singer.

Last weekend, drivers headed over to Gilcrest Farm for an HDT. Originally scheduled for the middle of the week, the weather once again decided not to cooperate, and was moved to the weekend. Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for drivers to practice for the upcoming Windsor Trace CDE. Scores for the Gilcrest HDT are here

Sunshine State CDE

Temperamental Weather and Close Competition at Sunshine State

This year, competitors and spectators got to experience the gamut of weather at Sunshine State. Cold and rainy for dressage, steamy and humid for marathon, and finally, sunshine for cones. Held at the Florida Horse Park, in Ocala, Sunshine State proved to be a very close competition for the Advanced single horse drivers especially, as they vie for the upcoming World Championships. In the end, Donna Crookston and her Morgan, Cowboy, emerged as the winners after a double clear in the cones with Leslie Berndl dropping to second. The next Florida shows will be interesting for those watching to see who makes the US Team for the singles  Also moving up in cones was Steve Wilson in the Advanced Horse Pair and Barbara Sims in the Advanced Single Pony. Misdee Wrigley-Miller won the four-in-hand division. Katie Whaley and Elizabeth Keathley were battling out all weekend in the Advanced Pony Pair division, with Katie besting Elizabeth with her Welsh cross ponies, Tommy and Tanner.

Other stuff happened in other divisions, I am sure, but I was driving my ponies at the time. And the world pretty much revolves around them, so here are the pictures from Pics of You. Or results: drivingnews.us

Windsor World Cup at Katydid Farm

Cheryl Pratt Rivers driving Morgan Horse, Rowley, at Katydid Farm

Today was the first installment of the “Windsor World Cup” hosted by Katydid Farm. Sixteen entries turned up in the cold, windy weather to take part in the first of three days, which culminates in a final event in April. The course consisted of two hazards, with cones in between, with best time winning. Knockdowns and errors are converted to seconds. Cheryl Rivers won both the single pony and single horse classes. Ray Mansur won the pairs with his Haflingers. Jane Hofstetter won the mini division.

2014 Monster Mini CDE

The 2014 Monster Mini CDE takes place in Windsor, South Carolina. Begun as a fun event for the local mini drivers and enthusiasts, in its fifth year the show has begun to draw competitors from a broader and broader area. The show is organized expressly for minis, as the name implies, and this year added a small pony division. This division proved to be quite popular. Three four-in-hands of minis turned up this year, which was a hit with the spectators. Linda Willis ended up in the top spot with her four black and white minis.

Saturday was a bit hairy as lightning and thunder rolled in just as the Preliminary division was beginning. The organizers made the wise decision to cancel the remainder of the day and finish dressage and cones on Sunday. Sunday was sunny and everyone seemed happy to not be blowing away! The marathon was section E only and ran through a few of the farms in Windsor Trace, with the hazards on both Bev Lesher and Lisa Singer’s farms. The hazards at Monster Mini are decorated by the local driving enthusiasts and always prove interesting. This year featured sail boats and blow up beachy decor.

I took a ton of photos and am working on uploading them all. You can see them all on the Monster Mini page.

Poppy and Amigo | pet photography

Poppy and Amigo had a mini photo session to make Christmas cards. Poppy is not a huge fan of posing for photos. Unfortunately, for her she is so cute, I make her pose for me often. Amigo, on the other hand would pose for photos all day. He is my big baby and loves attention.

Merry Christmas everyone, and here is hoping for all the best in the coming year!
